Making Sense Of Your Test Results In Jenkins: New Plugin Available

You are probably familiar with this: you meticulously set up your Jenkins pipeline and have a fair share of test jobs as part of that pipeline. As the number of your test jobs in your Jenkins setup is increasing, and your Jenkins pipeline (hopefully) is running more and more and more, this inevitably will result in more test results that are popping up more frequently as valuable outcomes of your Jenkins setup.

Results that focus on unit tests, performance tests, API / service tests, security tests, GUI tests, you name it. As each of the individual Jenkins test jobs produces these results, it may prove challenging to make sense of all the test results. Are we good enough to proceed to the next stage or, ultimately, to go live? These decisions typically include taking into account historic results of test jobs, but may also include linking the results from different test jobs. Like: “we are able to go live if we do not experience a functional regression and the overall performance is within the upper limit of 0.5 seconds on the API tests.”

XebiaLabs developed a Jenkins plugin that allows you to send all the results of the relevant test jobs to a central location. From this location, the quality metrics can be set and ultimate go/no go recommendations can be made. Across different test jobs, and taking valuable history into account. Install the XL TestView plugin, add it as a post-build activity to you existing Jenkins jobs and specify how to collect the results in XL TestView.
